On 27th May 2021, our students participated in the online quiz about the different languages as a positive contribution to mental health week and to learn about cultural/ language diversity . The language themed quiz took place in the afternoon and featured questions such as “What country has the largest number of languages?” or “What is the correct way to say ‘hello’ in French?”. Students also took part in creating language posters which they introduced to the audience.
Our goal of teaching students cultural diversity and that learning can be done differently was achieved by the light-hearted but a bit competitive atmosphere that was created. Sometimes we need that healthy challenge, don’t we? It was important to bring the learners together in this way especially due the current circumstances under the pandemic; with the pressures of the job search combined with the limitations that the lockdown has created, learners may have been feeling a bit more stressed than usual, therefore, the activity gave them a break, time to bond together and the opportunity to learn a lot of new things.
There were three gift baskets filled with treats ranging from confectionary to stationary items which were given to first, second and third place winners; those who did not win the quiz also received small rewards. It was a lot of fun, and both staff and learners had a lovely time.
